User Reviews & Testimonials

Just bought this IR pack and can say – it’s one of the most brutal sounding cabs ever! I use it with a 6 and 8 string guitars with Helix. Great lows and mid bite. Not too hi-fi and clinical sounding, but raw and brutal. Useful not only with Badonk amp, all amps sounds great. I mostly play down tuned stuff: old school death metal, doom, sludge… Must have iR pack for extreme metal player. Thanks!

Finally got round to testing these little corkers: Dr Bonkers Soundlab LLC Cab IR’s – I’m in love!
I really like the PZM boundary mic & ‘power amp’ versions in particular – they’re seriously saucy with oodles of mojo!

Huge thanks and props to Dr Bonkers for his contributions on the Bass Box™ stock cabs. We’re very pleased with them. The Atomic/Studio Devil team have always been fans of his IRs and he has been a pleasure to work with on this project. We’re in the process of updating our manual to include a well deserved credit to him.

If you haven’t tried Dr Bonkers Bass and guitar IRs you really should. They are some of the very best out there and an outstanding value!

Thank you, Dr. Bonkers! Your IRs are so good playing live shows at loud volume. They always hold together in the high end and have incredible dimension. Definitely the most underrated out there IMHO and all I ever use. -Kevin Lawson, Supernatural-VT on FB Sound Samples

i really love your IRs and kicked the Ownhammer because yours are sounding so good!!

i am so impressed by all of your IRs, i dont know how you managed to get the whole pressure and brutality in your IRs … My favs: sunn 2×15, hiwatt, carvin, 5150 … Using it in my boss gt1000
Take care and stay safe!

Martin Baumann Purchased Dr Bonkers Guitar Cab-Oddities™ Volume 14: PVH515 4X12, Volume 11: BIGW 4X12, Volume 13: LEGY 4X12 Guitar Cab IR Packs, Dr Bonkers Bass Cab Classics™ Volume 9: SULA 2X15, & In This Together™ Free Cab Pack IR Collection

I mainly dig the Sunn 2×15 for a nice tight oompf or the Marshall 8×10 for a response more centred towards high-mid and treble, but recently I’ve used the Sunn 2×12 (also guitar oriented) to cop a tone very similar to The Smiths, pick driven with a P bass. I did it against the official isolated track from This Charming Man and the 2×12 was the one that most naturally gave that kind of sonorities – tight but with a bit less weight on the low-mid than the 2×15.

I loaded your IR on the JST Rex Brown Soundforge plugin. It may be branded and styled for metal, but it’s way more versatile than it looks, especially with external IRs, and the embedded loader is a great plus.

Most of those short Instagram clips on my profile have been made using your IRs I quoted.

Eman Carr Used the Free Cab Pack Dr Bonkers In This Together™ Cab Pack IR Collection in WAV file format

Oh noooo, stock presets are really bad. First you may want to invest in an IR pack, those are game changers. After buying many of them I found that Marshall 8X10 from Dr Bonkers is all I need for any situation (about 300 ir’s in the pack, for 10 dollars) https://www.drbonkerssoundlab.com/…/dr-bonkers-bass…/
I split the signal in two, with a crossover set at 170 hz, I let the pure unaltered signal to the low part, OK, I add the mic pre with about 4,5 Gain and a bit low cut, so the lows are big and fat. For hi channel I put an IR block, and browse my IR’s until I find one that sounds exactly how I like. I like the fig8 ones a lot 🙂
At the end of the loop you have a mixer, so you can blend in the lows as you like. Add a compressor before all this and an EQ after this and you have a great starting point.

trying the SULA right now… the d12 d6 pzm dbs… flipping HUGE. fav bass cab of all right there. just amazing. you rock.

I don’t know how you captured so much ‘punch’ on that thing. for a 15 it really pops.

Michael Vengrowsky Purchased the Combo Pack of Dr Bonkers Bass Cab Classics™ Volume 9: SULA 2X15 Bass Cabinet IR Collection

ahh… good ole dr bonkers… why did I ever stray? Picked up the MBGR-B 8×10(bass) from dr b this weekend. No one else I’ve tried, short of maybe ownhammer, offers the same value for the money as Dr B. You get a TON of mic placements, tons of mixes (hyper real!), and a ton of documentation. The names of the files tell you all you need to know – no need for bulk renaming (thank you!). Most importantly – they sound outstanding. He manages to capture not only compressed punch, but fat vintage sounds as well.
I really like the fact that while others are offering “nice shiny brand new” cabinets/pictures… Dr B offers REAL cabs. some rips and tears in the pictures… maybe not exactly pretty… but the photos are as real as the irs you get.
this cab has several variations on each mic. Each speaker (all 8!) is sampled as well as some rear/distant samples. Well organized. Top notch.

Wanted to thank you for the great irs I recently purchased (Orange, Marshall, Ampeg and Mesa 8x10s).I recently upgraded from an AxeFX2 to a 3 and have been using these to come up with a better bass tone. Also want to thank your for the interesting pairings you provided as they’ve saved me a ton of time and ear fatigue getting started. I’m in a two piece punky type band where I’m playing bass, singing and using the AXE to create/split a guitar tone so coming up with the right mix that works has been a fun ride.

Keep doing what you do sir!

Absolutely love your cabs for Fractal Audio. Just purchased the 4X12 Leggy cab. Exceptional clarity and soft (not ice pick) highs! I’m looking for a 4×12 80s style Marshall Cab (Van Halen, Dokken, Ratt) Sound.

The clarity of your IRs is great but the feel and tone especially that soft (yet articulate) top end is second to none!  I’ve tried many 3rd party IR companies.

Keep up the great work! Love your products and price points!!

Just wanted to drop you a note saying your latest release of Hiwatt 4123 sounds awesome. Rare to find impulses for this vintage cab. The speaker combo using the Fanes and Eminence is unique. Crisp and clear, from clean to crunch, especially your mic combo with 421/57/RE10/PZM. Thanks for your work.

Erick Manard Purchased Dr Bonkers Guitar Cab-Oddities™ Volume 11: BIGW 4X12 Guitar Cab IR in WAV file format

I bought the 2×15 pack. Some very good stuff in there. You have a magic formula. That 2×15 sounds like I’m in the room with it.

I’ve bought some pure crap and have a Computer full of it. I have hundreds of IR files. Other than the ones that Michael Britt made, the rest are garbage.

Yours are VERY balanced and actually sound like a mic on a cabinet. Great job.

I’m a fan. I’m very familiar with that cabinet so I know what it is supposed to sound like. I play through a real version of that cabinet every week. You nailed it.

You have a gift.

Jon Willis Purchased Dr Bonkers Bass Cab Classics™ Volume 9: SULA 2X15 Bass Cabinet IR Collection (WAV Version for use with Line 6® Helix™)

Got it! GREAT TONES! I am very happy with this purchase

I’ve recorded a fast and dirty take with a gilmouridian tone (On an Island solo).

I have used the 4x12_BIGW_AT4033_BLUE_DBS from the folder Choice_Mixes. I have chosen this one after listening only to 5 or 6 IR’s from the pack…. more to discover… I like it when there are only few IR files but they are all great.

Tube Drv 3 knob + Hipower Jumped

ps: some bendings are not perfect pitch… but I enjoy so much the tones that come out of the guitar that I don’t care at all about it. Its the pleasure of playing just for the sake of good tone :D

Manuel Guerrero Purchased Dr Bonkers Guitar Cab-Oddities™ Volume 11: BIGW 4X12 Guitar Cab IR Collection – Combo Pack (Fractal & Wav Files)

Unreal!!! These are the BEST sounding IRs for the Hiwatt, hands down! I’ve got several IRs of the Fanes but these are by far the best. Well worth twice the price for sure.

James Youngman Purchased Dr Bonkers Guitar Cab-Oddities™ Volume 11: BIGW 4X12 Guitar Cab IR Collection – Fractal Cab Pack

Big thumbs up on this one…from my initial noodling, this cab has some real mojo, clean ,loud and resonant!.. the mixes sound tits on Austin Buddy’s Hiwatt patch from the III’s naked amp pack! Maybe the Doc’s best work yet, and a bargain.

Brad Lake Purchased Dr Bonkers Guitar Cab-Oddities™ Volume 11: BIGW 4X12 Guitar Cab IR Collection - Combo Pack (Fractal & Wav Files)

Ok Dr B. I am sold. awesome IR’s full of life, full range, countless possibilities. Made one mix with akg in cab lab and couldn’t stop playing. Heavy as F, pairs great with mesa and engl amps so far. Now unfortunately there are too many choices and possibilities. I’m also wondering if I would get the same enjoyment out of your mesa cab. will it be that much different ? have I found the holy grail already with the engl?

Out of the box I like these better than most of my OH OR ML so far.

William Markoff purchased Dr Bonkers Guitar Cab-Oddities™ Volume 10: EGA 4X12 Guitar Cab IR Combo Pack (Fractal & Wav Files)

Hello, I normally don’t go out of my way to write reviews or give “attaboys,” but I recently came upon your site offerings, and thought $1.99 for the 4×12 1983 Marshall® 1960A JMLD_Celestion® G12-80 was cheap enough to get a feel of your quality. Never been a huge Marshall fan (been more a Fender guy), and the G12-80 is a darker sound than what I normally like, but what the heck, as a test. I must say, wow. The first file I tried…usable, with minimal tweaking (rolled up some presence and treble). Even from this “darker” cab, I can get highly usable sounds, from clean to crunch. I have literally 10’s of thousands of IRs from all the usual players (Ownhammer, Redwirez, CabIReu, 3 Sigma, God’s Cab, Lancaster, etc.), been down the proverbial “rabbit hole,” and I’m not sure what your ‘secret sauce’ is (especially the PZMs), but your IRs are just a cut above everybody else’s I’ve tried. So, I … Read more

Hey, I just wanted to say I bought one of your Marshall cab packs quite some time ago and really liked it.
I recently was on the hunt for more IR’s and came across your site again. So I grabbed a couple more packs, Newest JMT75 and Filthy Shirley. I’m really liking how you capture these IR’s especially the 4×12’s.

Anyone who might think pass I don’t know this guy, try his $1 cab. Bet you come back after that.

I would love to see more 4×12 cabs, like Soldano V12, Friedman. I’d be all over them.
Any way keep up the great work!!

Btw I also wanted to mention I really like that you capture ALL the speakers and not just one.

I finally got the HypeReal™ IRs loaded in my Headrush pedalboard.  Both the Big Red and Workingman sounded just how I remember them!  My favorites were the Workingman IRs which blew me away.  I’m sure I’ll have uses for both models.

Chris Bowman purchased the WAV file version of Dr Bonkers Bass Cab Classics Volume 4: BIGRED 2X10 Bass Cabinet IR Collection & Volume 8: WMAN 1+2 1X12 Bass Cabinet IR Collection

Dr Bonkers bass cabs are THE best for bass in Fractal gear, bar none. 3Sigma had some good momentum and had some pretty OK cabs too, but Bonkers are where it’s at.

The Friedman Dirty Shirley Cab Pack Dr. Bonkers has is one of the very best on the planet. It works with everything. And it’s dirt cheap. It’s an absolute must have!

Bryan Lane (purchased Dr Bonkers Guitar Cab-Oddities™ Volume 5: FLTHY 1X12 Guitar Cabinet IR Collection in Combo Wav and Fractal File Formats)

My first feedback on the Geek RB IRs is positive. My benchmark are 3Sigma IRs. I found yours are more punchy (which I like)… I am using only the mixed IRs and I really dig the PZM ones. I will recommend them to anybody

Daryo Rondini purchased Dr Bonkers Bass Cab Classics Volume 7: GeekRB 4X10 Bass Cabinet IR Collection - Combo Pack (Fractal & Wav Files)

Again, the good Doc has come up with something that doesn’t sound like anything else…..the contrasts in the different mic/mixes is really extreme..in a good way, especially on the HypeReal™ mixes ….7 bucks..you bet.  The Rhythm Wiz preset is very sweet , instantly started playing my Tommy medley.

These sound really nice!

Alright so I read through all you guys suggestion.

I bought the ownhammers and dr bonkers based on all your recommendations.

And after slowly auditioning them for days….

My faves are:
Dr Bonkers Flthy SM57

For everything lol.

I use a helix. JCM 800 Model into it. AC30 Model into it. Matchless model into it. JTM45 Model into it. I just love this cab model it’s so ridiculous.

Nuttywalnutty (Line 6 Helix user purchased the WAV file version of Dr Bonkers Guitar Cab-Oddities™ Volume 5: FLTHY 1X12 Guitar Cabinet IR Collection)

I finally got a chance to try out the Dr Bonkers Marshall pack, and I like!

My provisional Next Big Plan allowed for picking one out of this set to load (more slots please Line 6, lots!), but in the end I kept all of the mixed ones except one. Didn’t compare with other makers, just pulled up an amp and went through them. Some are darker than ones I typically use, but I found them quite fun and useful.

I didn’t have the time or brain space to try the single mics, just the mixes, of which there are some not super common ones. Didn’t care so much for the PZM ones, but they’re an interesting idea, if I had more IR slots I might keep some around.

So bottom line, I definitely recommend these, not your standard fare!

Dave Merrill (Line 6 Helix user purchased the WAV file version of Dr Bonkers Guitar Cab-Oddities™ Volume A: JMLD 4X12 Guitar Cabinet IR Collection)

…this cab is really cool, nicely balanced and sharpened !! i’ve played it this afternoon and i’m feeling inspired by the sound i’ve obtained!
well done Dr Bonkers!
it will be a long night ;)

Nicolas Noret (purchased the Fractal Audio & WAV files combo pack of Dr Bonkers Guitar Cab-Oddities™ Volume 5: FLTHY 1X12 Guitar Cabinet IR Collection)

Nice job on this!
Love the mic choices, and you have the perfect amount of choices to blend as well.
And easy to navigate. Really digging this cab a lot. [then later]
I went into Cab Lab and mixed the RE20 Cone with the RE10 Cap straight up, & am loving it. Haven’t gone any further than that, cause I got stuck in just playin’, which is a great thing. [then later]
I been messing around in Cab Lab a bit, made a few more mixes, basically the same formula, but with a few other mics, the D12 and the M160. Both are killer with the D6.

Bryan Lane (purchased the Fractal Audio and WAV file Combo pack of Dr Bonkers Guitar Cab-Oddities™ Volume 5: FLTHY 1X12 Guitar Cabinet IR Collection)

I’ve been mixing your cone mics and the BK 1 and 2 captures and its getting me exactly what I wanted out of the acoustic cab, really glad you put these back up (now if I could just figure out that 360 fuzz tone…)

Matt Hall (purchased Dr Bonkers Silver & Black Bass Cabinet IR Collection Volume 1: AC406 2X15 & Alu 1X15 Bass Cabs - Combo Pack (Fractal & Wav Files))

Well worth it.  Killer IRs.

I had been using the Rosen Audio bass IRs, but I like yours more.

Jeff Martinek (purchased the WAV file edition of Dr Bonkers Silver & Black Bass Cabinet IR Collection Volume 1: AC406 2X15 & Alu 1X15 Bass Cabs)

The Polytone is boss for jazzy tones!

Brad Lake (purchased Dr Bonkers Guitar Cab-Oddities™ Volume 4: POLY 1X12 Guitar Cabinet IR Collection - Combo Pack (Fractal & Wav Files))

I’ve gotten all of your guitar packs, and they’re all excellent. Whatever it is you’re doing, it’s definitely a cut above most of the IR’s out there.

Andre LaFosse ( Purchased Dr Bonkers Guitar Cab-Oddities™ Volume 1: LaVie 2X12, Volume 2: ALOHA 1X6, Volume 3: FALKO 1X10, Volume 4: POLY 1X12, Volume A: JMLD 4X12 Guitar Cabinet IR Collections (WAV file version))

Wow Mike just tried your IR s and they sound amazing!! From what I been able try in the last hour so far they are better than most of my IR s.. And believe me I have gone down the rabbit hole,,LOL  Ownhammer (OH), Redwirez, Cabir.eu, etc etc..

Your Ir s have a different feel to them..But a satisfying realistic tone Great cleans as well!!
I will be in touch and will post some positive reviews on Line 6 and The Gear Page!!
Thanks again Mike!

I am smiling since one hour 🙂 the poly sounds really amazing, it’s the first IR i ever bought, i am totally blown away by the brilliance already now. thanks for the great work – also the files are organized excellently – even an IR newbie like me is immediately happy! 🙂

Christian Steineder (purchased the Combo Pack Version (Fractal & Wav Files) of Dr Bonkers Guitar Cab-Oddities™ Volume 4: POLY 1X12 Guitar Cabinet IR Collection

I was EXTREMELY surprised, in the best possible way, by this one from @Dr Bonkers :

https://www.drbonkerssoundlab.com/p…ume-a-jmld-4×14-guitar-cabinet-ir-collection/

Surprised because it’s a full-size pack for all of $0.99, and to my ears they totally hold their own against Ownhammer, God’s Cab, Kazrog, and others. Very curious to try some of their other IR packs.

(Full disclosure: I have no affiliation with Dr. Bonkers whatsoever, apart from enjoying the hell out of their IRs.)

Andre LaFosse (purchased the WAV file version of Dr Bonkers Guitar Cab-Oddities™ Volume A: JMLD 4X12 Guitar Cabinet IR Collection)

Douglas Swanigan (purchased the WAV file versions of Dr Bonkers Guitar Cab-Oddities™ Volume 3: FALKO 1X10 Guitar Cabinet IR Collection & Volume 4: POLY 1X12 Guitar Cabinet IR Collection)

Gotta say, these IRs sound great. I love the fact that you get cap/cone/edge with a whole bunch of mics – for each speaker! So much to play with, so much fun… I was very impressed indeed. Certainly the best Marshall IRs I’ve got.

Jason Law (purchased the WAV file version of Dr Bonkers Guitar Cab-Oddities™ Volume A: JMLD 4X12 Guitar Cabinet IR Collection)

You weren’t bullshitting about these being good for 90’s rock tones!!! The best 99 cents I’ve spent in a while!!!
