$1.99

Dr Bonkers presents Dr Bonkers Silver & Black Bass Cabinet IR Collection Volume 1: AC406 2X15 & Alu 1X15 based upon  the following two vintage bass cabs recorded as impulse response (IR) bass cab files:

  • Alu15 based upon Hartke® 1415™ Bass Combo.
  • Ac406 based upon a mid 1970’s vintage Acoustic® 406™ Wide Bass Cabinet.

Consider this cab pack has an ultra-low price and limited mic selection so that you can compare Dr Bonkers Bass Cabinet impulse response (IR) files to other providers’ takes on bass cabs in a low cost-low risk way.

Dr Bonkers impulse response file tribute to this cab is featured in both Fractal Audio Systems® file format, WAV format, and a buy both bundle. Pull down on the menu below to see details on each.

Here are some famous players who were rumored to have historically used a similar type of cabinet in the past as reference and educational purposes for your tone quest or inspiration:

Acoustic® 406™ Wide 2X15 Bass Cabinet:

Duff McKagan – Guns ‘n Roses

Mike Watt – The MInutemen

Hartke® 1415™ 1X15 Bass Combo:

I’m the only acolyte I know who used the real combo consistently & I’m not famous.

Historical Info (Click Here)

Alu15 based upon Hartke® 1415™ Bass Combo, this cabinet is voiced with the original Hartke® Aluminum Cone 1X15 inch bass speaker with a rear ported cabinet. The combo was capable of focused, compelling recorded bass tones that ranged from punk, to rock, to Gospel, to fusion, as well as metal. This amp was also sometimes used by jazz guitarists for an articulated clean tone. The amp was bought brand new and was in the sole ownership of Mike “Dr. Bonkers” Santasiero from 1995 and used on numerous sessions during his tenure at Fox Recording Studios, in Rutherford, NJ, USA..

Ac406 based upon a mid 1970’s vintage Acoustic® 406™ Wide Bass Cabinet, this cabinet is voiced with the original Eminence® 2 X 15 inch bass speakers with a center, front facing port between the two speakers. This amp was used on fusion and rock sessions and is capable of some serious rumble. This is also the ideal guitar cab to use for Doom Metal and Stoner Rock. Fox Recording Studios came into possession of this cabinet in 1998 and it has been used in rehearsals and sessions regularly ever since.

As I said in the Why Dr Bonkers section as well as in the FAQ section, I don’t give out free samples, but I realize this is the first bass cab impulse response (ir) file pack I released commercially. As such I could not in good conscience sell you this cab at full price when my current ir file output with my other two impulse response file lines give you so many more mics and options. I am hoping this cab pack will give you the confidence as a teaser to try my other offerings.

This cab pack was historically sold on Fractal Audio Systems website until June 2017 when I asked for the rights back to sell the files here in order to sell them to a broader audience of bass & guitar players who demanded I offer them WAV files as an option to purchase. Prior to building the actual physical Soundlab environment, these cabinets were recorded in early 2016 at Fox Recording Studios, located in Rutherford, NJ, USA.
