Here is a speaker view of the Eminence Delta Pro 12A in the cabinet:

Please note that I did not take extensive pictures of the interior of the cab for a bunch of reasons:

  1. This was an artist’s cab, so I was not about to pull speakers out of the cab to photograph them.
  2. The cab is front ported with a sealed back design.
  3. Using my camera, I could see the construction had some design features that were rather proprietary and I wanted to respect the intellectual property of Harry Kolbe’s ingenious design.

Historical Info (Click Here)

Harry Kolbe was an amp tech in lower Manhattan, New York, USA who started an amp repair and custom design shop in 1978, then came to prominence in the late 1980s and 1990s for his modifications of Fender® amps into 2 channel amps with overdrive and Marshall® JTM-45™ as well as JCM 800™ amps with high gain, high headroom, and low noise with channel switching modifications.

Famous players whose amps he modded included Lee Ranaldo of Sonic Youth, Billy Duffy of the Cult (who loaned it to Steve Jones of the Sex Pistols on the reunion tours). Paige Hamilton of Helmet. Harry Kolbe also did mod work for the Rolling Stones, Allan Holdsworth, Yngwie Malmsteen, Steve Stevens, Al DiMeola, Jim Hall, Joan Jett, Bad Brains, Buckethead, Robben Ford, Goo Goo Dolls, John Abercrombie, Joe Satriani, Chick Corea, Aerosmith, Mike Stern, Kim Stone, Talking Heads, and Jon Spencer.

At some point during the time he designed this Concert™ cab and had Fusco Cabinets do the contract manufacturing for the custom builds. There are not a lot of these cabinets out in the wild since the retail price was around $2,000 at the time. The cab is very stiff construction and heavy (between 130 and 150 lbs, depending upon the speakers loaded in it), like a classic Hiwatt® on steroids but with his own ingenious design twists/innovations. The Concert™ cab projects a loud and authoritative sound with tight bottom and clearly detailed mid range.

The 1X12 cabs he designed are much more likely to be found occasionally for sale as used on Ebay, Reverb, or TGP emporium.

So what happened and why isn’t Harry Kolbe more of a regularly used name among guitarists today? Between 1998 and 2012, Harry battled some major health issues and kept rather quiet about them. All levels of players had customer service issues that spread across the guitar and gear forums like wildfire. He reopened Harry Kolbe Soundsmith® in 2012 and is still around as of the date I write this.
