Historical Info (Click Here)

Fender® Excelsior™ was FMIC® trying to experiment with making retro style amps that were not based off of any previous amp combo design from the company’s history. The combo was part of their Pawn Shop series and was only offered for sale in limited quantities for 1 year.

From a sonic perspective, the open backed cab is very open sounding and mid forward. The original speaker was kind of flabby and loose sounding, so the popular upgrade was to replace the speaker with a Eminence® Legend 1518™ which transforms the cab into a tight attenuated bass with a generous mid forward sound that gives off a very vintage vibe, even if you did not know what the cab looked like, and ideal for traditional Jazz, roots music, blues, retro rock, or vintage hard rock.

The well loved cabinet was loaned from Doug Edwards who plays guitar in Mushmouth and Radio Petty.
